Privacy Policy

Who am I

I’m an individual whose website address is: https://me.kewl.lu.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

The comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

The comments are public.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit the login page, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on posts this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

I try to avoid embedding content on the Pages, but on the Posts they are more likely to appear.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

On the Contact Page, the contents are shared with Cloudflare turnstile, a feature that prevents bots from filling the form and sending spam; and the written messages may be checked against third-party spam detection systems.

Who I share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How about the raw data?

Some of your data is also stored in my database, backups and raw server logs. This database isn’t encrypted but isn’t directly reachable from the internet and doesn’t contain any confidential data. My backups are encrypted at rest and during transit, and the modified data is kept for 6 month (unless I run out of space and need to delete some archives). I may use the server logs to make some statistics, troubleshoot issues, or investigate attacks; they contain various data, including the IP address, the timestamp and requested path of each HTTP request. Technically, I can filter that information to track a specific user, but I have better things to do!

Privacy Policy Extension: Cloudflare Turnstile & User Nicknames

Forms – Cloudflare Turnstile

To protect this website from spam and abuse, I use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly challenge system, on contact, comment, login, password reset and registration forms.

  • When you fill out a form, certain technical data (such as your IP address, browser details, and form interaction patterns) may be shared with Cloudflare for the sole purpose of verifying that you are a real human and not an automated bot.
  • Cloudflare processes this information in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
  • The written messages submitted may also be checked against third-party spam detection systems, to further reduce unwanted automated messages.

User Registration and Name Privacy

If you choose to register for an account, you are not required to use your real name.

  • If you wish to keep your identity private, you are encouraged to use a nickname or pseudonym when registering or posting publicly visible content.
  • Please avoid including sensitive or personally identifying information in your username, nickname, or any public-facing fields.
